What is your opinion on Gun Control Laws?

December 18, 2012

What is the relationship between the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy and our Gun Control Laws?

I’m doing a little research and would appreciate it if you would take the time to answer one simple question for me.  Also, I would appreciate it if you would share this poll with your friends so that I can obtain as large a sampling as possible.

Thanks for your time and thought,

Dave

Everybody is talkin gun control….when the gun used at the mall was stolen……the guns used at the school were purchased leagally in a state where the gun laws are some of the stricktest in the country…..More gun control would not have prevented either of these situations…..you cant idiot proof the world unless you get rid of the idiots….our public saftey programs are what fail us, someone with a known personality disorder prob shouldnt be walking the streets !….There is no perfect answer for any of this !…..maybe make it so guns can only be used by the registered owner by a finger print scanner located on the gun somewhere would cut these problems in half…as far as assault weapons go, I do not think this is necessary for any other type of gun ! That’s a start…..

    • Thanks for sharing your opinion Bob. I’m going to wait to share mine until I’m done with this poll. Check back in a few days if you are interested. If not, thanks for stopping by and participating.

I am surprised that so many “intelligent” people and “experts” on the issue of gun related problem want to deal with the symptoms of gun relatedviolence rather than dealing with the real issue. There is no quick fix for the problem it needs to be examined seriously to get to the root of the problem. My view is, the society is raising a violent generation that has no value for human life and think shooting is fun. We are witnessing gun related violence that was not as bad as few years back, statistics proves that the problem gets worse in all aspects from year to year. I know my view is not popular and touches the interest of many people including politicians, media owners, dealers and entertainment industries. We are reaping the fruits of what we have planted in the heart and minds of our children. To understand why I am saying this simply observe the kind of toys on the market, see what kind of games are available for kids in arcades and what kind of movies and videos are produced and released on all TV channels nationwide for entertainment. On top of all this internet especially social media plays great role in training kids to practice violence. This are very important factors that lead to violence along with unfair distribution of guns to the civil society. Trying to control the problem either by allowing more guns to the civil society or limit the availability of guns only is not a solution. If we are serious about it let us be honest to ourselves and talk the truth about the issue. If we don’t do this the blood of innocent people and history will judge us.
    Thank you

  3. Thanks for taking time to respond Solomon. For the most part I would agree with you about the issues which have lead to the increases we see in violence. I think there are a couple of other factors to add, but I wanted to wait until I had time to look at the results from my poll before making a reply. My results and response are now complete at https://deliberatingdave.wordpress.com/2012/12/30/does-gun-control-really-work/

I believe that we have created a perfect environment for mass murders by eliminating the right and responsibility of law abiding citizens to protect themselves. Gun free zones would look like attractive targets to would be terrorists or murderers.

I also believe that our abortion epidemic has contributed to a lower valuation of life. If we can specify that only certain individuals are really human, then murder becomes a much smaller worry. It doesn’t matter if these specifications are based on age, race, sex, sexual orientation, disability, mental capacity or any other criteria. When we undervalue any life, it begins a slide which is hard to stop.

Thank you again for taking time to look at my poll and respond.
